aTV Flash (black) Beta5 Now Available
Today we are pleased to announce the release aTV Flash (black) Beta5 for the 2nd generation AppleTV.
Beta5 features improvements to virtually every aspect of aTV Flash (black) but our main focus has been on building and improving the Media Player feature. Media Player has received a big boost in Beta5, but is still under heavy development with many more exciting features and improvements still to come.

AppleTV 4.2.2 update
Yesterday (5/11) Apple released a 4.2.2 update for the 2nd gen AppleTV and Seas0nPass has been updated to provide an untetheted jailbreak for this new version. As usual, the latest version of Seas0nPass can be found at seas0npass.com.
Note: Updating to 4.2.2 is not required to install Beta5.

Beta5 is available through the Downloads tab in your account. If you're already running aTV Flash (black) on your AppleTV all the new features can be installed through the Maintenance --> Manage Extras menu.

Can anybody help me getting my atv 2 back to normal use. The only thing that happend on my tries to jailbreak was, that now - after restore of the oroginal Software via iTunes - thw wifi connection does not work. And I am not the only one with this issue. There are lots and lots of people with the same problem and without a workaround.
Maybe someone from fireCore could at least give us a hint to get the atv 2 fixed!!
Hard enough that we paid 20 bucks for less than nothing.
Anyone has got an idea about that problem?!

XMBC keeps dropping video files from external HD in its library!!!!! WTF
Also, how do you get the media player part of ATV flash to work? Am I stuck using XMBC?

I just jailbroke my ATV2 and installed flash. The Netflix layout now only allows me to login/logout and search compared to before where there was a plethora of searches and categories. Any insight to what may be going on?

Can you give us some udpate on status for the next beta ? It is about a month since the last one. I am still waiting to see good feedback to buy :-)
PS: Probably not a good place to ask but a killer factor for me would be to get to see my movies in the same "view" as the rental/buy one on the aTV with covers in a grid view ! aTV2 highly degraded usability to me since I have a huge movie collection (stored on itunes).

Great job on all this. Looks really promising. Just got a black Apple TV about 2 hours ago.. desperate to try the aTV Flash (black) beta.
Where can I get hold of it? There's nothing in my downloads tab?

Hi The Media player re-set to a green screen twice during a 2 hour movie.... but I guess you're working on that so it's ok for a Beta.
Also, network traffic is a bit stilted at times.. the movie is freezing... breaking in and out... the buffer might not be set up properly.. but there doesn't seem to be any way for user intervention to try to correct this.
I've removed all other wireless devices from the network to help, but to no avail. The NAS is wired up to the router.

Upgraded to Beta 5 And have problems with XBMC and Media Player. Before update XBMC played every file type I have and Now with beta 5 can only play avi's. Cannot play wmv mp4 mkv or anything other than AVI. Have 3 apple tvs and only updated this one thankfully. ANY SUGGESTIONS

Can any admins shed some light about adobe flash support in near future??I bought this atv2 just for that purposes and to find out thing is not working right! Now I bought a lifetime support to find out that xbmc crash whenever I play h264 or mkv ending files. lots of these features are only available for US resedince and will not work for me. I can't even downgrade this dame thing to version 4.2.1 even follows and seraching procedures for the last 24 hours. If, however, firecore cannot support flash players anytime soon. Can you please refund my money. I may just return this crap atv and go for google tv.

I could really use some help? I haven't upgraded in a while cause everything worked! But couldn't resist trying Media Payer. Problem is I can't get it access my drive conected to my airport base station. Keeps saying wrong user name/password, yet I can sign in fine with XBMC. Am I missing something? Also, now XBMC has no sound and crashes on movies that I know played fine before upgrade. I have SSH and turned on both passthroughs as before, but still no sound.
Any help? I know its probably something I'm over looking, but.......HELP

Found the answer in a previous blog post and it worked for me…
Use "root" for the username and whatever password you have assigned to your Airport Base Station's external drive.

Just writing to say thanks for creating this for the new Apple TV. I just gave my 1st gen away and was pleased to see that I'd be able to keep wireless playback on the new unit. Excellent work. Still can't figure out a way to run my Aperture library from my Drobo....but..these are all small things.

Any ideas on next release schedule? It was a pretty consistant 2 weeks between updates but has slipped as of late - still doing great work but looking forward to more stability/media player fixes/updates.

Once using Beta 5, is 5.1 sound broken across every ATV feature? Is this to be covered in the next update?
Likewise, Airplay seems only to work with audio now; no picture is streaming from iPad. Is there a workaround right now?

Hi--thanks for your responses here and elsewhere. The 5.1 issue was my problem but I can't seem to get Airplay video--audio only is working. (In other words, when I hit the Airplay icon on my ipad (v1) or iphone 3gs, audio plays but video images (or apps or games) don't show up on the tv.
Please advise (and yes--I did use SeasOnPass!)

James, the forum is littered with reports of air play only working for Youtube for the last release, and apparently this one. Most ppl are using Seas0n Pass to Jailbreak.

I currently can't use the media player at all because it crashes out and restarts Lowtide every time I try to watch anything. That's on Apple TV Software 4.2.1 (2100) with nothing else installed except for Media Player and Maintenance. Any help would be much appreciated!
EDIT: Just updated my Apple TV to the latest firmware and reinstalled everything... it seems to be working now - at least it's not crashing out before even starting to play.

Love this software. I find that SD video plays mostly okay with the occasional hiccup. HD content though gives me a memory low error every time. What can I do to improve things (i've restarted lowtide)?
