Seas0nPass Updated for AppleTV 4.4

Seas0nPass has been updated to support a TETHERED jailbreak of the new AppleTV 4.4 (iOS 5) software released on 10/12 (also supported are the new minor updates - 4.4.1 released on 10/17, 4.4.2 released on 10/24, 4.4.3 released on 11/17, and 4.4.4 released on 12/16). Full details on what's new in 4.4, status of 3rd party features, and how to update are below.

Should I update?

Currently the jailbreak for 4.4+ is tethered, which is a bit less convenient than an untethered version. If the features added in 4.4 excite you it may be worth updating; however, the previous 4.3 version will continue to be supported so updating is not required.

The full list of changes included in 4.4 can be found below:

  • AirPlay Mirroring: Now with video mirroring – wirelessly stream what’s on your iPad 2 screen to your HDTV.
  • Photo Stream: View photos recently taken on your iOS device and pushed to your Photo Stream in iCloud.
  • Trailers: A whole new way to browse and view hundreds of the latest theatrical trailers.
  • National Hockey League: Watch live games. View highlights, scores, and more.
  • Wall Street Journal Live: Watch up-to-date news, business commentary, and financial analysis from leading experts.

Apple has also added support for subtitles in Netflix and three new slideshow themes: Photo Wall, Flip-up, and Shifting Tiles.

Which plugins are supported on 4.4?

  • Couch Surfer (works)
  • Last.fm (works)
  • Media Player (works)
  • NitoTV (works)
  • Overflow (works)
  • Remote HD (works)
  • Rowmote (works)
  • RSS Feeds (works)
  • Weather (works)
  • XBMC (nightly builds only)
  • Plex (not working)

How do I update?

Seas0nPass will default to the latest untethered version, which is currently 4.3. If you want to use Seas0nPass to update and jailbreak a newer version simply follow the steps below.

  1. Download version 4.4.4 (9A406a) and save the IPSW in an easy to find location.
  2. Download the latest version of Seas0nPass.
  3. Open Seas0nPass and Option + click (Mac) or Shift + click (PC) the Create IPSW button and select the new IPSW file that was downloaded in step #1.
  4. Seas0nPass will complete the jailbreak and restore process automatically.
  5. After the restore is complete, move the AppleTV to your TV and follow the steps for performing a Tethered Boot.

A demo video that outlines the tethered jailbreak process can be found here.

Enjoy. :)

Update: It seems Apple has taken down the 4.4.1 AppleTV update due a number of reported issues. For now 4.4 is the recommended version for those wishing to update.

Update 2: The 4.4.1 version has been re-released.

Update 3: Seas0nPass has been updated to support AppleTV 4.4.2 - released on 10/24.

Update 4: Seas0nPass has been updated to support AppleTV 4.4.3 - released on 11/17.

Update 5: Seas0nPass has been updated to support AppleTV 4.4.4 - released on 12/15.

Have jailbroken Apple TV 2 but for some reason images/logo (Movie Thumbs, NitoTV Logo and Apple Logo) above menu is blank now. Anyone know how to fix please?

apple tv wouldnt accept firmware tired ireb and then i decided to re do firmware on seas0n worked perfect!

mine has the FC logo but not the additional tabs such as music movies etc. what should i do now?

I need help! I`m on the verge of smashing this thing! I`ve completed this thing step by step over 10 times and Apple TV (No FC) keeps appearing (thus not jailbroken). I get no errors so I have no idea what`s going wrong!

Just continue with the next step, even though you don't see FC it actually is JB!

So, after much ado, I finally got this working on my MacBook. Here's the secret:

Follow the directions exactly EXCEPT when the prompt to enter DFU mode shows up. Then, plug in the USB to you computer, followed by connecting the power. DO NOT use the remote yet!! Instead, once the light on the Apple TV starts to rapidly blink, UNPLUG your power cable! This is ESSENTIAL!

With the power cable unplugged & the USB still attached, use the remote as instructed to enter DFU mode. Everything should work as planned from here on out.

In the event of an error, briefly unplug the USB from the computer, and do a standard restore via iTunes before attempting the jailbreak again.

Hope that helps!

Thank You !!! Works great now!!!! :)

I also was able to successfully jailbreak my atv2 following the instructions posted on Sun Jan 08, 2012 1:05 pm by anonymous. I would like to add that you have to make sure no other USB devices are connected, I had an external HD and it was conflicting with my atv2. Once I removed the ext. HD, I got it working. Thanks for the tip anonymous.

I would like to say that after trying about 20 times. I carefully read the post where it states to take out the power cord before doing the DFU. Once I followed exactly as stated, it worked. I am so happy. Thank You,

I can verify that this 'fix' is correct and working.
I had all sorts of problems with my 2nd ATV2 until I came across this.
Thanks poster.

Fantastic, I can report that it did the trick on Windows too :)

It did not work for me. ATV wants me to log in to iDisk. I don't use iDisk. I get error "iTunes restore script failed, selecting IPSW in Finder... How can i over come this? Thanks.

Thanks bud! This was stumping me and your trick finally got everything to work. Enjoying Plexy goodness on two aTV's!

WOW!!!!!! AI would have never tried this if I hadn't exhausted all other things to try. I tried it 3 differnt cables, reinstalled itunes, rebooted, tried it on my macbook pro, vaio, asus and low and behold what this WORKED!!!! THNAK-YOU wish I would have found and tried this 5 hrs ago!

Thanks so much! I followed your instructions exactly, after having tried to follow others and this is the one that worked!

I have problems !! I keep getting this message :

org.xbmc.xbmc-atv2 is already the newest version.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 10 not upgraded.

I have tired over several hours to get it to resolve but I really don't have a clue.
Is there a simple fix or do I have to uninstall XBMC and then reinstall it??

So after all is done, I had to set up an itune account. Do I just order the movie and you won't be billed?

What actually worked for me was just restarting my computer,I tried everything posted in this forum nothing was working, finally decided to just restart my computer and it worked perfectly fine!

Hope that helps!

Why do I have to update to 4.4.4 (is this thethered) when my box is running 4.3 out of the box... I keep getting the error 1600, 1604, 3194 when the software updates on the box. Tried 3 computers now lol.

Any ideas?

Why doesn't the Manage Extras menu work after installing ATV Flash (Black) with the new SP 4.4.4 upgrade?

I've been able to JB my aTV2 to 4.4.4

Happy New Year!!!! ......my first New Year accomplishment.....

hope this will help some of you out there having the same problem

thanks
took a couple of tries but got it

i have problem restoring the generated AppleTV2,1_4.4.4_9A406a_SP_Restore.ipsw with iTunes 10.5.2.11 (latest). It says an unknown error occured (3194). I've tried many times, but still the same error.

Anyone have idea to resolve this? I was able to restore my aTV2 to factory setting and at the same time updated using iTunes. Then, I tried running Seas0nPass again to generate the new custom IPSW. Error 3194 still deter me from Custom Restore (shift+Restore).

Help appreciated.

Thanks.

My fix was to just to install iTunes on my Win7 machine and it went off without a hitch. Was previously trying on XP but it would not budge. Not sure if it was that it had to install the new drivers or whatever, but it worked.

Restarting iTunes and sometimes even restarting your PC can make the difference. Check out my homepage at www.sliced-apple.com and search for my guide to help you the rest of the way.

Good luck!

This guy Raj above got it right! I used his site and he got me 99% JB. There seems to be this 1% hit or miss in getting the ATV 2 in DFU mode. For me I rebooted, changed usb ports & let usb drivers install, rebooted again, plugged in the USB & the power.Used the remote to enter DFU mode. I left the power plugged into the AVT well into the restore process & unplugged it while it was being verified. I still got the error 1600... I didn't care anymore after 12 trys I thought I would try it. It works great. Since then I used Raj's site to install the good stuff.

Thanks for the vote of confidence! I'll add your issues to the blog, hopefully that will help someone in the future!

After trying and trying!

Uodate first (legally) to 4.4.4

And then try it again. Worked for me!!!

Good luck!

Same problem right here!!!

change the hosts

after hours of trying to get into dfu mode.. I plugged in the POWER cable, waited for the light to flash quickly and then held menu and play.. worked perfectly..

I think i may have bricked my Apple TV. There is no way to restore it. It gets as far as the error in iTunes about "The Apple TV "Apple TV" could not be restored. This device isn't eligible for the requested build."

Check yours hosts file.
Ensure apples IP isn't blocked. Thats one way for this error to occur.

How do you check your hosts file to do ths?

Click Finder
At the top menu, click Go.
Select “Go To Folder” from the submenu.
Type “/private“.
Open the folder “etc” and locate the “hosts” file.
Copy it to some folder and right click on the file and click show info and make sure you have the rights to read and edit it.
Open it with text editor.
Add “ #74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com” to the end of the file.
Now, save the file. Your host file will look like this after you edit.
Copy it back into the “etc” folder and replace the old “hosts” file.
Restart iTunes and it should be fixed.

I finally got everything working after hours and hours of trying. I was installing the software, and all was going well until I installed xbmc. After xbmc installed, I went into it but it wouldn't let me back out. I had to disconnect the power but when I plugged it back in all I got was a blank screen with the apple, then after nothing... nothing comes up now at all.

Ideas anyone??

Nevermind - after 4-5 mins of taking a break it just rebooted all by itself and appears to be working again. lol

I was able to JB 4.4.4 tonight. I was unsuccessful last night as I unplugged a cable at the wrong time. I redid the seasonpass process from the start and viola! I SSH'd into the ATV2 and installed XBMC and NitoTV. Using Nito now to install other options/features.

I've been trying to JB my AT2 with no luck. It has 4.4.4 (3330) version.

After following the Seas0npass step-by-step process I can't make it go into DFU mode .

Any idea what I may be doing wrong ?

Tks & happy new year

Is this with the tethered seas0npass or with the untethered (5.0.1)? Is that last one possible for Apple TV 4.4.4

Hi i bought à 30$ software that doesn't work. K thx bye!!

The software works fine. I dont think you've identified the root cause of your issues.

How do you mean this
